How long after laparoscopic surgery can a patient get out of bed?
Disease description:
I am preparing to undergo laparoscopic surgery at the hospital and have already completed the preoperative examinations. How soon after laparoscopic surgery can I get out of bed?
Patients can get out of bed 3–5 hours after laparoscopic surgery. Anesthesia typically wears off within 2–3 hours postoperatively, after which patients may begin gentle ambulation. Prolonged bed rest should be avoided during recovery to prevent complications such as intestinal adhesions; therefore, appropriate early mobilization is encouraged. Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure and generally causes minimal tissue trauma. Nevertheless, a short hospital stay is still required, and discharge is permitted only after the patient has achieved an adequate level of recovery.
