Is low luteinizing hormone (LH) indicative of premature ovarian failure?
Disease description:
My luteinizing hormone (LH) level is relatively low. A friend suggested this might be due to premature ovarian failure. I’d like to ask: Does a low LH level indicate premature ovarian failure?
Low luteinizing hormone (LH) levels are generally not indicative of premature ovarian failure (POF). Premature ovarian failure refers to the onset of amenorrhea before age 40, accompanied by decreased estrogen levels and varying degrees of menopausal symptoms—such as hot flashes, night sweats, irritability, and menstrual irregularities. In POF, the hallmark hormonal changes are elevated follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) levels—not reduced LH levels.
