Is a renal cystic lesion cancerous?
Disease description:
My husband pays very little attention to his health. A few days ago, he was diagnosed with a cystic lesion, and I’m somewhat concerned it might be cancer. Could you please clarify which types of lesions are considered cancerous?
Renal cystic lesions are not necessarily cancerous; they can be either benign or malignant. The patient should undergo further diagnostic evaluation at a hospital, such as cyst aspiration cytology or surgical exploration, to determine whether the lesion shows signs of malignant transformation. If malignancy is confirmed, prompt surgical resection is required. Additional treatments—such as radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy—may be necessary postoperatively to control disease progression.
