What diseases can adrenal color Doppler ultrasound detect?
Disease description:
I’ve had abdominal pain for several days. After visiting the hospital, my doctor recommended an adrenal color Doppler ultrasound. What conditions does an adrenal color Doppler ultrasound help diagnose?
Adrenal color Doppler ultrasound is primarily used to detect space-occupying lesions of the adrenal glands, such as adrenal hyperplasia, adrenal tumors, and adrenal cortical carcinoma. This examination allows visualization of the adrenal glands’ size and morphology; notably, larger nodules—especially those exceeding 5 mm in diameter—are readily identifiable on ultrasound. In contrast, nodules smaller than 5 mm require careful evaluation by an experienced sonographer to avoid missed diagnosis. When abnormalities are detected via adrenal color Doppler ultrasound, timely intervention and treatment can be initiated.
