Elevated postoperative D-dimer levels require prompt anticoagulant therapy. Elevated D-dimer levels typically suggest the possible presence of venous thrombosis; therefore, close observation for signs and symptoms of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in the lower extremities is essential. Additionally, if symptoms such as cough, dyspnea, or chest pain are present, pulmonary embolism (PE) must not be ruled out, and thrombolytic therapy may be required under physician guidance.
