Is D-dimer elevated in pulmonary embolism?
Disease description:
I’ve been coughing frequently lately, so I went to the hospital for tests, which showed an elevated D-dimer level. Is D-dimer also elevated in pulmonary embolism?
In pulmonary embolism, D-dimer levels are typically elevated. Elevated D-dimer levels often occur in thrombotic disorders, such as deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremities or pulmonary embolism. In such cases, prompt chest CT imaging is also required. When necessary, thrombolytic, anticoagulant, and blood-activating, stasis-resolving medications should be administered under a physician’s guidance to achieve therapeutic efficacy.
