How to treat elevated D-dimer levels after childbirth
Disease description:
After giving birth, my older sister developed elevated postpartum D-dimer levels and would like to begin treatment as soon as possible. Could you please advise how elevated postpartum D-dimer levels are treated?
Elevated postpartum D-dimer levels require etiology-directed treatment.
If the cause is a hemolytic disorder, anticoagulant therapy—such as warfarin or unfractionated heparin—may be administered; in some cases, surgical intervention (e.g., interventional procedures) may also be necessary.
If disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is present, the underlying primary disease must first be identified and addressed. Concurrently, comprehensive management—including blood transfusion, anti-infective therapy, and correction of acidosis—is essential.
