What symptoms are associated with elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in late pregnancy?
Disease description:
I am currently seven months pregnant and feel a decreased appetite and mild fatigue. I’m concerned about my liver function—what symptoms might occur if alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels are elevated during the third trimester of pregnancy?
In the third trimester of pregnancy, the increasing fetal weight places additional strain on the liver, which may lead to a mild elevation in alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels—this is considered normal and typically causes no noticeable symptoms. However, if ALT levels rise significantly or remain persistently elevated, it may indicate a pathological condition, potentially presenting with symptoms such as loss of appetite, indigestion, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, diarrhea, hepatic pain, and jaundice.
