After undergoing surgery for acute appendicitis, patients should rest in bed as much as possible. However, light ambulation may be initiated according to individual tolerance, as it helps promote recovery of intestinal function. Food intake should be avoided until bowel motility resumes; once peristalsis returns and flatus is passed, clear liquids may be introduced, gradually progressing to semi-liquid and then soft foods. The surgical wound site must be kept clean and dry to prevent infection.
