Periosteal injury and muscle strain typically recover within six to eight weeks. Periosteal injury results from intense physical activity, causing tearing of the periosteum and subsequently triggering an aseptic inflammatory response. Patients may adopt a supine position and elevate the affected limb to heart level to help alleviate local inflammation and edema. Following a muscle strain, it is recommended to rest as much as possible and minimize excessive movement of the affected area.
