Why does filamentary keratitis occur?
Disease description:
Over the past two days, I have experienced redness and swelling around my eyes, accompanied by pain at the inner and outer canthi. After examination, I was diagnosed with filamentary keratitis. What causes filamentary keratitis?
This condition is caused by prolonged use of contact lenses, cosmetic lenses, eye patches, etc., which come into direct contact with the eyeball and restrict oxygen flow to the eyes, leading to filamentary keratitis. Patients may experience a foreign body sensation or friction in the eye. It is advisable to promptly remove the filaments and undergo appropriate medication. Additionally, during treatment, eye usage should be reduced, and prolonged use of mobile phones or computers should be avoided.
