Most cases of newly developed vocal cord polyps resolve spontaneously with voice rest, typically returning to normal within approximately 40 days. Vocal cord polyps are benign growths—primarily mucosal polyps arising from edema in Reinke’s space of the vocal folds—that impair glottic closure and cause hoarseness. Surgical treatment primarily involves polypectomy under general anesthesia using a laryngoscope with specialized laryngeal forceps. As the procedure is performed solely within the mucosal layer of the vocal folds, postoperative wound healing is rapid.
