Can otitis media with tympanic membrane perforation and purulent discharge be cured by surgery?
Disease description:
I have otitis media, and despite prolonged treatment, there has been little improvement. Pus discharge has gradually developed. Can surgery for otitis media with eardrum perforation and pus discharge be cured?
Otitis media with tympanic membrane perforation and purulent discharge can be effectively treated surgically. Excessive fluid accumulation in the middle ear cavity may increase pressure, leading to tympanic membrane perforation. Once the purulent discharge drains, tinnitus caused by otitis media typically improves. If symptoms persist or fail to improve, tympanoplasty (tympanic membrane repair surgery) may be performed. In some cases, patients may also undergo ear irrigation with topical ear drops, along with regular follow-up examinations.
