It is true that short-term oral contraceptives can treat dysmenorrhea. However, they are primarily indicated for secondary dysmenorrhea caused by endometriosis and may be administered as short-course oral contraceptive therapy. Short-term oral contraceptives inhibit endometrial growth and ovulation, thereby reducing prostaglandin levels in the blood and alleviating dysmenorrhea.
