Dysuria (painful urination) and yellowish urine are commonly caused by cystitis (bladder inflammation). If bacterial infection is the underlying cause, antibiotics can effectively alleviate symptoms. Patients should avoid high-potassium foods. In some cases, irritants such as soaps or shower gels may trigger these symptoms; therefore, repeated use of such products should be avoided. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) may also present with these symptoms; urinalysis in such cases typically reveals elevated white blood cell counts, and possibly increased red blood cells and urine specific gravity. To help relieve symptoms, patients should drink plenty of water and urinate frequently. Additionally, a light, bland diet is recommended.
