Can urethritis cause bifurcated (split) urine stream?
Disease description:
I was recently diagnosed with urethritis. Over the past few days, I’ve noticed urine stream splitting (urinary bifurcation). Is this related to urethritis? Can urethritis cause urinary bifurcation?
Urethritis typically does not cause urinary stream splitting. Urinary stream splitting is usually caused by conditions such as prostatitis or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and is often accompanied by symptoms like urinary frequency or increased nocturia. Patients are advised to seek evaluation at a reputable hospital for further diagnostic testing. Once a definitive diagnosis is established, targeted treatment should be administered under the guidance of a clinician. In daily life, strict attention to personal hygiene is essential—showering is preferred over bathing, and underwear should be changed daily.
