Itching at the urethral opening after extracorporeal lithotripsy may be caused by urethral infection. Urethral itching could result from a urethral infection due to Mycoplasma or Chlamydia, which clinically often presents as itching at the urethral opening and a small amount of purulent discharge. Testing for Mycoplasma and Chlamydia is recommended, and treatment may include macrolide antibiotics such as azithromycin or roxithromycin. Additionally, during treatment, it's important to drink plenty of water, which can provide some supportive therapeutic benefit.
