There are mainly two reasons for excessive sweating during infant sleep. One is physiological sweating, which typically occurs due to relatively high metabolic activity and an immature nervous system regulation in babies. The other is pathological sweating, which may result from vitamin D deficiency in infants, potentially leading to rickets, impaired calcium absorption, and consequently increased neuromuscular excitability.
