How long does it take for hand swelling from an IV to go down?
Disease description:
I noticed my hand was swollen today while receiving an IV infusion at the outpatient clinic. How long does it usually take for this kind of swelling to go down?
Swelling of the hand after intravenous (IV) infusion requires immediate cessation of the infusion to prevent worsening of the swelling. Subsequently, apply a warm towel compress to promote absorption of interstitial fluid and alleviate pain. In most cases, hand swelling during IV infusion is a normal physiological phenomenon; there is no need for excessive anxiety, as it typically resolves spontaneously within a few days without causing any abnormal systemic symptoms.
