What causes pain and swelling in the ankle joint?
Disease description:
I'm 42 years old. Recently, I suddenly started experiencing pain in my ankle joint, sometimes accompanied by swelling. I'd like to know what could be causing ankle pain and swelling.
Ankle pain and swelling are generally caused by gout or chronic arthritis. If there is significant ankle swelling and severe pain, it may be due to gout, which can be treated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Chronic ankle edema and pain may result from chronic arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis. Patients are advised to undergo blood tests for definitive diagnosis. A positive result or elevated levels of inflammatory markers, anti-CCP antibodies, or other related antibodies can confirm the diagnosis.
