Can umbilical cord blood cure lupus nephritis?
Disease description:
Last week, my husband noticed blood in his urine when going to the bathroom, and sometimes experienced swelling and dizziness. After examination, he was diagnosed with lupus nephritis. I've heard about using umbilical cord vessels; I wonder if umbilical cord blood can cure lupus nephritis?
Cord blood cannot cure lupus nephritis. Cord blood contains hematopoietic stem cells that can replace malignant or defective blood-forming cells and is used in treating certain hematologic disorders such as leukemia. Nephritis is an inflammation of the urinary system caused by viral infection, and its treatment depends on pathological findings, urine protein levels, and kidney function. Clinically, antibiotics are commonly used to treat these conditions.
