Side effects of excessive vitamin D3 supplementation
Disease description:
Vitamin deficiency can be harmful to the body, but what side effects might occur if you consume too much or overdose on vitamins?
The main cause is excessive intake of vitamin D in the human body, leading to an imbalance in the body's feedback mechanisms, resulting in increased intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphorus, elevated blood calcium levels, and subsequent deposition of calcium salts. Deposition in the kidneys may lead to nephrocalcinosis, kidney atrophy, and impaired renal function. If calcium salts deposit in the trachea and alveoli, respiratory dysfunction may occur, causing hypoxia. Calcification in vital organs such as the nervous system and cardiovascular system can result in irreversible and severe damage. Common symptoms of toxicity include loss of appetite, anorexia, irritability, and decreased food intake.
