Disease description:

My husband felt a bit short of breath, so he went to the hospital for a checkup and was diagnosed with blocked blood vessels in the heart. We forgot to ask the doctor at the hospital—I'd like to know, is a blocked heart vessel the same as coronary heart disease?

Not necessarily. Myocardial infarction generally belongs to coronary heart disease, but coronary heart disease is not always myocardial infarction. This is because coronary heart disease includes various types such as silent (latent) coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, and myocardial infarction. Myocardial infarction occurs when the heart muscle experiences prolonged oxygen deprivation and ischemic necrosis, and when arterial stenosis exceeds 75%. A blockage of more than 75% in the coronary arteries defines myocardial infarction.
