Can frequently looking at your phone cause glaucoma?
Disease description:
My child stays home every day during the break using a smartphone and doesn't go out to meet classmates. Today I suddenly saw a video claiming that using smartphones may lead to glaucoma, so I'd like to ask: can frequently using smartphones cause glaucoma?
Generally not. Prolonged use of electronic devices such as mobile phones and televisions can cause eye strain, but does not directly lead to the aforementioned diseases. These conditions are usually caused by elevated intraocular pressure. If detected and treated early, they will not have significant impact. However, due to factors such as close-up work on mobile phones and electronic radiation, the incidence of these diseases may increase. While there is a correlation between mobile phone use and glaucoma incidence, it is not a primary cause of glaucoma.
