What factors are likely to trigger hyperthyroidism attacks?
Disease description:
My close friend was recently diagnosed with mild hyperthyroidism. After treatment, she has almost fully recovered. To prevent recurrence, I'd like to know what factors commonly trigger hyperthyroidism?
Hyperthyroidism attacks may be caused by factors such as thyroiditis and pregnancy. Thyroid inflammation can trigger hyperthyroidism, possibly secondary to bacterial or viral infections, during which the follicular cells of the thyroid are destroyed and thyroid hormones are released into the bloodstream. In addition, autonomous thyroid adenomas can also cause hyperthyroidism, as can certain medications or foods, although these cases are mostly transient. Early pregnancy may induce or exacerbate hyperthyroidism.
