Can leukocytosis lead to leukemia?
Disease description:
Today my child's blood test results came out, showing a particularly significant increase in white blood cells. Could elevated white blood cell count indicate leukemia?
Leukocytosis does not necessarily indicate leukemia. An elevated white blood cell count may result from bacterial infections, and may be accompanied by symptoms such as diarrhea, bloating, cough with excessive phlegm, and fever. Additionally, if a complete blood count shows a significant increase in white blood cells along with decreased platelet and hemoglobin levels, leukemia cannot be ruled out. It is recommended to seek timely medical evaluation and further testing at a hospital.
