Is it effective to treat shoulder periarthritis with anti-inflammatory injections?
Disease description:
I have periarthritis of the shoulder (frozen shoulder), but I'm not sure whether anti-inflammatory injections are effective. So, are anti-inflammatory injections helpful for treating periarthritis of the shoulder?
Anti-inflammatory injections are ineffective for shoulder periarthritis. The pain associated with shoulder periarthritis is caused by aseptic inflammation, and anti-inflammatory injections do not improve its symptoms. These injections have no direct effect on muscle adhesions, though they may provide some anti-inflammatory and analgesic relief. The primary treatment remains physical therapy, such as acupuncture, massage, infrared irradiation, and microwave therapy, which tend to be more effective. Other supportive treatments like heat application and cupping may also help. Most patients can alleviate their symptoms through external therapies including acupuncture, physical therapy, and massage.
