Is high BNP always indicative of heart failure?
Disease description:
Recently, the village organized a health checkup. My mother-in-law's BNP level was found to be high, and the doctor said it indicated heart failure. Does a high BNP always mean heart failure?
Elevated BNP does not necessarily indicate heart failure. Increased BNP levels may also be caused by pulmonary hypertension, hypertension, chronic lung diseases, and other conditions. Patients with heart failure typically have increased ventricular wall tension, which stimulates the myocardium to secrete more BNP. This BNP enters the bloodstream, so measuring BNP levels during examination can help assess the severity of heart failure.
