Why is the uterus in an anterior position when viewed on abdominal ultrasound?
Disease description:
Every time I go to the hospital for an abdominal ultrasound, my uterus is found to be in an anteverted position. I'm a bit worried—could you please explain why the abdominal ultrasound always shows my uterus as anteverted?
During an abdominal ultrasound, an anteverted uterus is considered normal. Under normal circumstances, the uterus is in a mobile position. Prior to the ultrasound examination, patients may need to hold their urine; prolonged urine retention can cause the bladder to press against the cervix, which might lead to an anteverted position of the uterus. If the patient does not experience any significant discomfort during the examination, no treatment is necessary.
