Is cleft lip and palate related to sperm?
Disease description:
During a prenatal checkup, cleft lip and palate were detected. I don't have this condition myself. Is cleft lip and palate related to sperm?
Cleft lip and palate are generally not related to sperm. Cleft lip and palate are congenital malformations caused by chromosomal abnormalities that prevent the proper fusion of facial tissues, and therefore are not associated with sperm. However, environmental factors can also contribute to cleft lip and palate. Infections, radiation exposure, or the use of certain medications prior to pregnancy may increase the risk. Surgical repair of cleft lip should be performed under a doctor's guidance, along with corrective treatment for cleft lip and palate or dental-jaw deformities. Additionally, it is important to maintain adequate nutritional intake.
