Can complete transposition of the great arteries be detected by four-dimensional color Doppler ultrasound?
Disease description:
Could the child have complete transposition of the great arteries? I'm planning to have a 4D color ultrasound—can complete transposition of the great arteries be detected by 4D ultrasound?
Transposition of the great arteries can be detected by four-dimensional color Doppler ultrasound. Complete transposition of the great arteries refers to a complete swap between the aorta and the pulmonary artery, meaning the aorta arises from the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery arises from the left ventricle. Transposition of the great arteries involves a complete exchange of the aorta and pulmonary artery; without a patent ductus arteriosus or atrial septal defect, the infant will die shortly after birth. Neonates with complete transposition of the great arteries require early surgical intervention to prevent complications such as hypoxia and heart failure.
