The Hazards of Excessive Mercury to Human Health
Disease description:
I work at a metal plant and have recently been experiencing headaches, dizziness, and general weakness. My doctor said this is due to excessive mercury exposure. What are the health risks of elevated mercury levels in the human body?
Excessive mercury levels in the body can lead to poisoning. Individuals with acute mercury poisoning may experience symptoms such as headache, dizziness, general weakness, swollen and painful gums, gum bleeding and erosion, as well as abdominal pain and diarrhea. In severe cases, toxic damage to localized skin areas may occur, and complications such as interstitial pneumonia and kidney dysfunction may gradually develop. Chronic mercury poisoning typically presents with muscle tremors and kidney damage.
