Dr. Zhang Liwen
Geographic tongue in young children is generally caused by poor physical development, congenital nutritional deficiencies, or inadequate growth and development. It may result from weak physical constitution, and in most cases, the child's tongue coating shows peeling after birth. If the child is in good spirits and has normal immunity, observation without special treatment is usually sufficient. Congenital nutritional deficiency during development may lead to lack of vitamins or trace elements, which can be improved appropriately through supplementation of trace elements, vitamin B complex, dietary adjustments with fruits and foods rich in these nutrients, or medication if necessary.
