Disease description:

I've been suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome for a while, but I still want to have a child. A friend suggested in vitro fertilization (IVF), so I'd like to ask: can someone with polycystic ovary syndrome undergo IVF?

Some patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) can undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF). If, after treatment, hormone levels are brought within the normal range and infertility persists following 3 to 6 cycles of ovulation induction, IVF may be considered. However, IVF requires medication to stimulate ovulation, which increases the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation in these patients and may prevent successful embryo transfer.
