A benign ovarian teratoma was detected and surgically removed. I'm worried about the possibility of recurrence—can benign ovarian teratomas come back after surgery?

Benign ovarian teratomas may recur. The treatment of benign teratomas mainly focuses on young women who wish to preserve fertility, and can involve removal of the teratoma from one or both ovaries. Recurrence of ovarian teratomas is often due to incomplete surgical removal, where cyst wall tissue is left behind, leading to regrowth of the tumor. After surgery for ovarian teratoma, it is recommended to have a follow-up examination at the hospital every six months to one year.
