Disease description:

An elderly family member fell to the ground while using the toilet. After going to the hospital, they were diagnosed with cor pulmonale. A friend mentioned that coronary heart disease might also be possible. I would like to ask: can cor pulmonale occur together with coronary heart disease?

Dr. Zhang Jianbin
Cor pulmonale coexisting with coronary heart disease. Cor pulmonale results from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, leading to impaired right heart function. Coronary heart disease is caused by atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries, primarily affecting the blood vessels of the heart, whereas cor pulmonale mainly involves pulmonary hypertension with primary lesions in the pulmonary arteries. If right ventricular involvement is present, appropriate medications should be selected for symptomatic management.
