Vocal cord polyps and vocal nodules can be painful. The condition usually worsens with excessive talking or shouting, leading to prolonged hoarseness. In addition to a hoarse voice, patients with vocal nodules or polyps may also experience symptoms such as coughing, excessive phlegm, and blood in the sputum. Vocal nodules are typically understood as small, symmetric protrusions on both sides of the vocal cords, resulting in callus-like formations on the vocal cords.
