Disease description:

My grandfather's otitis media flared up, and he asked me to go to the pharmacy to buy some ear drops called "Dian Ti Er You" for treating otitis media. I'd like to ask—can ear oil drops be used for otitis media?

Whether otitis media should be treated with ear oil depends on the condition of the eardrum. Ear oil, primarily composed of phenol glycerin, helps reduce ear fluid and exerts anti-inflammatory effects when the eardrum is intact. However, if the eardrum is perforated, phenol glycerin may irritate the mucosa of the middle ear cavity, worsening congestion and swelling of the middle ear mucosa; in such cases, ear oil should not be used. Patients with otitis media are advised to seek timely medical attention at a hospital.
