The testicle was hit, and pain occurs upon touching the lower abdomen, which is usually referred pain. Because the nerves of the lower abdomen and testicles share the same pathway, the brain may misinterpret the source of pain, leading to perceived pain in the wrong location. After testicular trauma, swelling of the testicular capsule may occur, so a scrotal ultrasound is needed to determine whether a hematoma is present. If a hematoma is found, antibiotics can be used to prevent infection.
