Can a scabbed wound be exposed to water?

A few days ago, my finger was cut by a kitchen knife, but it has now started to scab over. I’d like to ask whether getting it wet will have any adverse effects in this situation.

Hello,
Once the wound has formed a scab, avoid contact with water for the time being, as moisture can easily lead to infection. You may resume washing the area only after the scab has naturally sloughed off.
After scab formation, it is important to assess whether the wound has achieved true healing or merely superficial scabbing. “Pseudo-healing” is characterized by the scab lifting away from the underlying wound surface, with copious purulent exudate accumulating beneath it. Early exposure to water in such cases may trigger recurrent infection.
We recommend keeping the wound clean and dry, avoiding spicy or irritating foods, and consuming more vitamin C–rich foods and fruits.
