What causes elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT)?
Disease description:
This week during my physical examination, I found that the levels of transaminase in my bones were elevated. What causes elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT)?
Elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels are usually caused by heart disease, bone disorders, or liver diseases. This is primarily because ALT is present in the heart, bones, and liver. Damage or necrosis of liver cells and certain tissues typically leads to increased ALT levels in the blood. In such cases, patients need to receive targeted treatment based on the underlying cause.
