Pediatric variant asthma, also known as cough-variant asthma in children, mainly presents as coughing, typically a severe irritative dry cough that is particularly prominent at night and in the early morning. Cough symptoms tend to worsen or be triggered by exposure to dust, cold air, or after catching a cold. Some patients may experience spontaneous relief, but episodes often recur. Notably, there are no obvious symptoms of chest tightness or wheezing.
