Disease description:

I really enjoy eating king oyster mushrooms—a type of edible mushroom widely loved by many for its delicious flavor. However, as a mushroom, it does come with certain dietary restrictions. I’d like to ask: What foods should not be consumed together with king oyster mushrooms?

Dr. Shen Yonghua

King oyster mushrooms should not be consumed together with foods high in tannic acid, such as persimmons and pomegranates, as tannic acid may interfere with the body’s absorption of nutrients from king oyster mushrooms, thereby reducing their nutritional value.

King oyster mushrooms should not be eaten with donkey meat, as donkey meat contains abundant animal gelatin, while king oyster mushrooms contain amino acids; the combination of animal gelatin and amino acids may trigger toxic reactions.

King oyster mushrooms are inherently cooling in nature; consuming them alongside other cold-natured foods—such as watermelon or bitter melon—may exacerbate internal coldness and cause discomfort, especially in individuals with weak spleen and stomach function.
