Can infants and young children use a glycerin suppository (laxative) if they haven't had a bowel movement for several days?
Disease description:
The baby hasn't had a bowel movement for several days. I'm thinking about trying a glycerin suppository—can infants and young children use glycerin suppositories if they haven't pooped for several days?
Do not use enemas for infants and young children who have not had a bowel movement for several days. If the stool is relatively hard and has not been passed for 5 to 7 days, you can gently massage the baby's lower abdomen, using clockwise motions, 1 to 2 times per day to stimulate intestinal motility and promote bowel movements. Additionally, encourage the child to drink more water and take probiotics to enhance gastrointestinal motility and facilitate defecation.
