Causes of a smaller-than-normal gallbladder on fasting
Disease description:
During a morning physical examination performed on an empty stomach, the results showed a smaller-than-normal gallbladder. I would like to know the possible causes of a small gallbladder when fasting.
A small gallbladder on an empty stomach may be due to a relatively small amount of bile or bile expulsion from the body after eating, or it may result from a naturally smaller body build with a correspondingly smaller gallbladder; this is usually a normal physiological phenomenon. However, if a person has cholecystitis, bile cannot be stored properly in the gallbladder, leading to impaired excretion and failure of the gallbladder to expand, which also commonly results in a small gallbladder when fasting.
