Yesterday I went to the hospital for a breast examination and was diagnosed with a breast fibroadenoma. What will happen if I don't have it surgically removed?

If not removed, fibroadenoma of the breast may continue to grow larger over time and could potentially undergo malignant transformation. Fibroadenomas usually cause breast pain and noticeable lumps. Elevated levels of estrogen in the body can stimulate the fibroadenoma, leading to its enlargement. Malignant changes in fibroadenomas may eventually progress to cancer.
