Why are women's nipples dark?

Women may experience darkening of the nipples, which could be due to excessive secretion of androgens causing endocrine disorders that lead to increased pigmentation of the nipples, and may also be accompanied by menstrual cycle irregularities. However, it could also be a normal physiological phenomenon, primarily because the nipples naturally develop pigment deposition with age, appearing progressively darker. This is particularly noticeable after pregnancy in women, when hormonal levels rise significantly.
