I usually really enjoy eating yuanxiao (glutinous rice balls). Last night, after eating them, I started feeling unwell. I went to the hospital and was diagnosed with pancreatitis. I want to know—can eating yuanxiao cause pancreatitis?

The main ingredients of yuanxiao (glutinous rice balls) are glutinous rice flour and sugar, making them a relatively common food. Eating yuanxiao usually does not cause pancreatitis. If a patient develops pancreatitis, it may be due to gallstones moving out of the gallbladder and causing an obstruction in the bile duct, or parasites blocking the pancreatic duct. It could also result from recent episodes of overeating, excessive alcohol consumption, or other poor dietary habits that lead to excessive secretion of pancreatic enzymes.
