What does high protein in urine mean for the kidneys?
Disease description:
During today's physical examination, I was found to have high levels of urinary protein in my kidneys. I didn't know much about this condition before and would like to understand what it means.
High levels of urinary protein may result from glomerular diseases that cause pathological changes in the glomerular filtration membrane. It could also be due to tubular proteinuria, in which the reabsorption capacity of the renal tubules is reduced, leading to failure in reabsorbing proteins from the glomerular filtrate. Additionally, patients with multiple myeloma may also develop high urinary protein levels.
