When I went for a medical checkup today, the doctor said I have a cyst on my kidney, but I don't usually feel any significant discomfort. May I ask what causes this condition?

Renal cysts, if simple renal cysts, are usually associated with abnormalities of the renal tubules. For example, as age increases, the likelihood of developing renal cysts also rises. They may also be caused by genetic factors; for instance, individuals with a family history of this condition have a higher probability of passing it on to their offspring. Additionally, secondary renal cysts can occur in patients with uremia.
